Ontario: Past and Present

The City of Ontario, California was founded by the Chaffey brothers in 1882 after they moved from Ontario, Canada. They settled in the region to establish a "Model Colony" for others and since then it has attracted those seeking a brighter future. In December 1891, Ontario was incorporated as a city and developed as an agricultural center with citrus, peach, walnut olive and grape crops.

Ontario has been one of Southern California's fastest growing cities for more than 25 years. It's just 35 miles east of Los Angeles with the 15, 60 and 10 Freeways providing convenient access to all Southern California counties. Ontario International Airport serves over 7 million passengers annually. Ontario Mills Outlet Center is the largest shopping/entertainment center in Southern California.

Ontario is committed to opportunities for play with over 400 acres of parks within the city limits. In April 2006, Brookfield Homes introduced the first community within the New Model Colony, Edenglen, featuring a variety of beautiful homes, a clubhouse, pool, basketball court, and bark park.
